Simply, Avira Antivirus is a tool to scan for potential threats in your PC or laptop. In case you find any major issues, it can suggest the action you have to take.
I think, you have heard about this tool already. The remarkable feature of it is its minimalistic nature. UI is clutter- free. You can use it without holding your breath.

Features of Avira Antivirus
Just stop here if you want a music player and a photo viewer with an antivirus. Avira is not such a tool. The features are limited to carry out its real function.
Click here to download the setup file of Avira. After the download process gets over, just proceed with the installation.
You should select threat categories (refer to the image given below). You can tick a category if you think it’s a threat for your computer. Then click on Next.
You have to configure AHeAD also. For that, just turn on the checkbox which says Activate AHeAD heuristics. Then, choose a detection level. I recommend selecting the middle option because Avira was already criticized for its false file detection.

#1. Real-Time Protection
Without an active protection or a real-time protection feature, an antivirus is a real waste I would say. Real protection scans every file you operate. When you double click on a file, Real-Time Protection checks it and allows running if the same is not a threat.
You are on the right spot if you want to download an efficient antivirus. Avira has this Real Time Protection. By default, this option remains on. They will remind you with a warning in case it gets turned off.
#2. Intelligent System Scanner
Refer to the above image to have a gist of what I am talking about here.
A system scanner is another important feature an Antivirus software must have. About 11 types of scanning choices are there. You can see about ten types of scanning options on the Avira center itself. It is also possible to scan any folder or file by selecting ‘Scan Selected Files with Avira’.

Are you a parent who worries about what your child is doing on social networks? Then, this option is going to please you.
By default, you can’t find this option working. It needs you to sign up for them. If you have an account already, just log in. That’s all.
After completing the above steps, you will be able to monitor your child’s social network usage.
#4. Scan and Update Scheduler
Do you forget things often? Then, you will probably forget to scan your computer for malware. In such a situation, scan scheduler in Avira comes to your rescue.
There are some items in the left pane of Avira window. Locate scheduler at the end of the list and click on it. You will see something like this (see the image).
Click on ‘+’ button to add a new schedule. You have to insert a name and description of the job. It’s not a big deal. You can type whatever you want, in those fields. Next step is selecting between Scan and Update job. Then click Next. Choose appropriate options in the upcoming steps.

How to Proceed a Malware Scan on Avira Antivirus?
Starting a scan on Avira is not a tough row to hoe. If you are already familiar with the user interface of an antivirus, scanning process will be a piece of cake for you.
Step 1: You will have an icon in the system tray. Double- click on it to open Avira center. Or, you can open the same by clicking on desktop icon.
Step 2: The home window will be opened. You can see a list of options on the left. Click on System Scanner from them.
Step2: Now, you have to choose from a number of options. In case you want to scan for malware in a removable media, select that option. Full scan, Quick scan, Active Processes scan, Rootkit scan and custom scans are available.
Here, I chose Rootkit scan.
Step 3: Click on the magnifying glass icon on the top left to begin the scan. The icon can be seen just above the white screen of multiple options.
Step 4: Now you can see a window like this which shows the progress of scanning. It is possible to stop or pause the scan.
After the scan is completed, I got the following warning. (This was the first time I scanned my computer with Avira, and it was not a full system scan. That’s why they urged me to scan my computer fully).
You will also get the same when you scan for the first time.
Step 5: Check the image given below. This is what you get after each scan. In my case, no malware were found. You can ask for a detailed report by clicking on Report.
