One of the most well-known Chinese brands new phablet is now available for pre-orders. But is it worth your money? Let’s find out in my Cubot X15 review.
Design & display
2.5D glass & really thin bezels make the huge footprint of this device seem really nice at first sight. Below the display you will find 3 capacitive Android navigation keys (menu, home & back). Earpiece, front facing camera and all the usual sensors are above. Power button and volume rocker are on the right side.
Micro USB is on the bottom flanked by two speakers, whereas 3.5mm headphone jack is up top. Phone is available in two colors: white & champagne. The device measures in at 153 x 76 x 6.9mm, and weighs 177 grams.
At 6.9mm in thickness can be considered very thin. 5.5 inch panel has a resolution of 1920×1080 with a pixel-per-inch count of 401 (for some reason Cubot official site says 425 ppi, from my calculations it’s 401). This JDI display is very sharp, with accurate colors & high brightness.
For the specs we have a standard mid-range setup. MTK6735 is an octa-core 1.3GHz 64-bit chip used in a huge amounts of devices recently. Mali T-720 is used for graphics. We’re seeing a lot of devices with 3GB of RAM, but here we see 2GB – which is still plenty. 16GB of internal storage can be expanded via a MicroSD card. Completing the package is 4G (dual SIM), NFC (HotKnot), Bluetooth & GPS.
Software, camera & battery
Android 5.1 Lollipop is running out of the box on the X15, with a couple of small changes made by Cubot. First change is the launcher, which has custom icons. Of course this is Android, so you can easily replace your launcher in few seconds. Other changes are to accompany HotKnot & dual SIM capabilities. Both the front 5 megapixel & back 13 megapixel shooter deliver decent results. With a 2750 mAH battery you can expect average results, around 4 hours of screen-on-time.
If you want to get a big phone with nice design, solid camera & affordable price this is a great option. But don’t forget to check out other options like the DOOGEE F5. What do you think about the Cubot X15? Are you getting one?
